The Big Draw 2021 festival runs throughout the month of October around the World. It is a celebration of drawing and its intention has always been to promote the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention. Everyone from around the World is encouraged to take part.
The Festival is made up of a collection of creative events, activities, and workshops across the globe. They are run by organisations big and small; from individuals, schools, artists and institutions, in small villages through to large cities. It is known as the World’s biggest drawing festival and actively encourages everyone to be involved, regardless of their drawing skills.
The theme this year for the festival is ‘Make the Change’, which can be interpreted as a way to explore and discover ways to live in balance with the World around us. A way to reconnect with each other and demand a better world for future generations. After the extraordinary events of 2020, this is a chance to reflect, re-evaluate and challenge the status-quo.
It is hoped this theme will draw attention to the pioneers and innovators adopting new more sustainable materials. Alongside a better way of living together, from our city streets to the irreplaceable countryside.
Who can take part
As we mentioned earlier it is open to everyone. You can choose to run your own event or join an event taking place. Whether you are just starting out as an artist, an established artist or not an artist at all, everyone is encouraged to get creative! It is an opportunity to connect with others, be creative and of course have some fun!
Over 500,00 people take part every year and so far the Big Draw has encouraged more than 4.5 million people to take part. It also has two World Records, one for the longest drawing in the World (one kilometre) and one for the greatest number of people drawing simultaneously (over 7,000).
There is no fee for independent artists and individual event organisers. Hopefully this will support freelance and self-employed creatives to take full advantage of The Big Draw 2021 Festival. Organisers and artists can use festival events to attract new audiences, test creative ideas, projects and workshops. It is a wonderful opportunity to be part of an established and recognised festival, that celebrates the universal language of drawing.
There is a list of events available to see on their Big Draw website, you just have to choose an area and you’ll see what events are available near you. Don’t forget you can also create your very own Big Draw event, encouraging others to get drawing. Share your event or participation in an event on your social media platforms. Use the hashtags #thebigdraw and #bigdraw Don’t miss out on The Big Draw 2021 festival.
